What Sheldon Stands For
Parental Transparency
I believe parents are essential partners in education, and I will stand up for parental rights while working to strengthen family engagement. I believe in full parental transparency ensuring that families are kept informed and engaged. Parents should be empowered to play an active role in the decision-making process when it comes to their child’s education.
Back to Basics
My top priority is academic excellence. Strong schools focus on the basics — reading, writing, math, science, civics and history. Literacy, in particular, is the foundation of all learning, and I support efforts to improve reading programs while aligning with the district’s goal of increasing math proficiency. By focusing on a consistent curriculum and using direct explicit instruction, we can raise student outcomes above state averages and ensure every child is prepared to succeed.
Protecting Girls' Sports
I am very impressed by the excellence of our girls’ high school athletic programs. These young women work hard, train with dedication, and deserve fair competition. I believe men should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports, as it undermines the integrity of girls’ athletics.
Student Safety
I also recognize the importance of addressing the practical challenges families face. For example, the double school bus routes have created hardships for many parents and safety concerns at drop-off zones. I will work with administrators to find collaborative solutions that make transportation safer and more convenient for families.
Fiscal Responsibility
Finally, I will apply my experience in managing budgets to ensure responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Whether it’s overseeing construction projects or ensuring fair access to bidding opportunities, I will work to maximize value and prevent unnecessary cost overruns.
